Carl’s Jr: Big Country Breakfast Burrito
    November 9th, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

When Reggie and I started Foodbeast way back when (measly couple months ago), we had a list of goals we wanted to achieve. Today, we scratch one off. The good folks over at Carl’s Jr. were nice enough to get us in to try out their new Big Country Breakfast Burrito. Of course, when they invite you, you can’t say no…so sure enough, here’s the rest of the journey:

    Blue Iguana Restaurant: Burrito Grande
    November 3rd, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

If you truly love food, you definitely know that one of the most fulfilling eating triumphs is polising off a ridiculous amount of food in order to win more food. Foodbeast Kevin recently made it happen at the Blue Iguana Restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he consumed this mammoth Burrito Grande. For $12.99, you get your pick of beef, chicken or chile verde united with rice & bean then wrapped in a giant flour tortilla. It all gets smothered in Spanish sauce and melty cheese. Clean your plate of this behemoth and you get dessert on the house! Kevin got down with some flan for no charge. Take a peek at the Blue Iguana menu here.

Roscoe’s House of Chicken n’ Waffles
    November 2nd, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

In the mid 1970s Herb Hudson and his friend Roscoe moved from New York to Hollywood to open one of Los Angeles’ staple restaurants. On October 31st, 2008, a few of us here at Foodbeast decided to embark out of the Orange County bubble and spend halloween night with a few choice musical artists at the Paladium courtesy of the awesome people at PacSun. Following the festivities, it seemed only proper to stumble a few blocks down past all the amazingly dressed Halloweeners littering the streets and get our fried-chicken-and-waffle-fix on. Join us as we tamper with euphoria:

    Hong Kong Express
    October 30th, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

I definitely loves me some St. College. Anyone from Orange County, particularly the area I grew up in around Anaheim/Fullerton/Brea knows that St. College is one of the backbone streets in our neighborhood. It’s littered with banks, shopping centers, and lies…lies…lies! As you can see above, that is a neon sign hanging in the window of “Hong Kong Express”. While nothing inside (besides drinks) was actually priced at a dollar, there was a time, as a child, I remember my mother taking me to this very establishment and we ordered meals for everyone and we indeed only paid 1 dollar a plate. I guess times have changed, but one thing has truly stayed consistent…and that is the amazingness of this place. We’ve got adventure and plenty pictures galore, so read on!

    Taqueria Zamora
    October 25th, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

Taqueria Zamora has a special place in my heart. For more than 2 years straight out of highschool, I worked as a super-intern of sorts at a fun production company in Santa Ana (what’s up MVT!). Morale was always high around lunchtime amidst my co-workers, but the highlight of our workweek was definitely something that the staff there now refers to as an official holiday: “Huaraches Friday”. For those unfamiliar, a Huarache has been described as a “mexican pizza”, a concoction of refried beans, your choice of meat, lettuce and cheese all atop a fried mat of corn masa that resembles an extremely fat sandle. Every friday at work, we  would pull straws and someone drives out to Taqueria Zamora and picks up the goods. Today though, my friend Marc and I decided we would actually sit down, instead of ordering and picking up. What an awesome vibe:

    Chipotle Mexican Grill
    October 23rd, 2008 | Adventures, Eats | By: Staff

Recently had the opportunity to satisfy a mean burrito craving, courtesy of Chipotle Mexican Grill. Chipotle makes its name with huge gourmet burritos and tacos, fresh, high-quality ingredients and  as well as giving eaters the power to customize their meal perfectly to their liking. You get your food in an assembly line style,  like your sub sandwich at Subway or Quizno’s. Tortilla or taco shells first, vegetables next, followed by beans and meat, then finally perfected with some enticing accessories: many different types of  kickin’ salsa, sour cream, cheese and chunky guacamole. Scope out the pics and get hungry!

    Flame Broiler
    October 19th, 2008 | Adventures | By: Staff

Flame Broiler used to be an afterschool delicacy during my high school years. My friends and I would pile into our chick-magnet ‘88 mafia inspired Mercedes and head out to our local Fullerton, CA branch of The Flame Broiler. “Flame B” as we used to call it, because we were cool, always boasted filling bowls of chicken, beef or veggies with healthiness as a central ingredient in their food preparation. Lucky for us, the Flame Broiler franchise has expanded greatly since our highschool escapades, and now boast almost 50 restaurants across California and Arizona…one of which is the new Irvine location pictured above. Join us as we check it out!
