Stone’s New ‘Coconut IPA,’ for Boys Still Too ‘Macho’ to Order Cocktails

Earlier this year, Stone held their 2013 Homebrew Competition and invited thirty brewers to compete for the chance to have their recipe professionally brewed at Stone and nationally distributed. Among those competing were Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan, who submitted their home-brewed Coconut IPA.

In the end, the duo’s “tropically inspired” ale was claimed the winner and soon after, in collaboration with San Diego homebrewers and RIP Current, they began brewing test batches to hone in on the perfect hops combination. They eventually settled on six hop varieties used to “attain the bright flavors of tropical fruit that the homebrew version originally delivered.”

According to Stone Brewaster Mitch Steele, the unique IPA “smells like a piña colada… but there’s definite hop character there as well, so you know it’s an IPA.” It’s recommended to consume the R&R Coconut IPA well before the “Enjoy By” date in order to maximize the coconut and hop flavors.

You can swoop up the Coconut IPA at select stores across the US. For those boys still too shy macho to order a cocktail at the bar, this one’s for you
