Despite Nearly Half of Americans Visiting McDonald’s in March, Sales Decline

This past March, 49 percent of Americans over the age of 14 visited McDonald’s, according to a study by analytics firm Placed Insights. This makes the fast food powerhouse the most visited retail business in the US, surpassing Walmart and Walgreens, an impressive title given that the findings were based on data from more than 70,000 volunteers who divulged what businesses they frequented in the past month.

Food-services dominated the list, with six of the top ten spots held by Subway (3rd, 37.8% of Americans visiting in March), Burger King (4th, 24.3%), Starbucks (5th; 23.9%), Wendy’s (6th, 22.8%), and Taco Bell (9th, 18.2%).

Despite coming out on top, McDonald’s continues to suffer from declining sales — an issue that made headlines when the company saw their first quarterly decline in a decade.

With Burger King and Wendy’s stepping up their marketing game, the race to win over the consumer palate pushes on.
