Science, You Are Drunk: UCLA Developing Instant-Sobriety Pill

A research team at UCLA is working on a drug that could take you from drunk to completely sober in the time it takes to metabolize a pill — and it’s all thanks to some alcohol-soaked lab mice. Scientists found that by injecting intoxicated mice with a nanocapsule containing two of the enzymes that help to process alcohol, they could rapidly decrease the blood alcohol level of individual rodents.

This is easier said than done (developing a workable combination of enzymes and a stable nanocapsule took years) but the results point towards a future in which you could get completely plastered at a party, pop a pill, and then drive home — sober. That’s a future we’d like to see.
