Art, at its core, is meant to illicit a sense of pure wonder. Whether done artificially or naturally, is an artist’s preference and both mediums have produced prodigious work throughout history. However, in an age where digital technology has become cohesive with how we imagine the world, tools such as Photoshop and Gimp have enabled artists to manipulate art on an increasingly artificial level — raw photos twisted to perfection or warped into images portraying scenarios not achievable by natural means are the norm. While many will argue both the benefits and disadvantages of the ongoing digital revolution, one thing is certain: To see extraordinary photos void of any digital manipulation is a rarity in this era.
