The above image was spotted by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and has since gone viral in Japan. We debated on it’s exact origins, wondering what kind of bizarre restaurant would be brazen enough to color their albacore sashimi and salmon roe with lollipop candy shades. We also questioned its authenticity, with Photoshop being a possible culprit for the fantastic image.

Then, it hit us. It’s art and authenticity aside, this kind of art is our favorite kind. The colors strike the visual senses and combine two ordinary things to make something atypical, causing you to be mentally displaced for a moment. The unnatural image forces you to consider what you normally eat and interact with through an entirely new perspective. Think of it as surrealist food art.

Now, it all boils down to one question: Would you eat it?
