Coffee Chain Now Printing Daily News on Their Beverage Sleeves

Gulf News, UAE’s prominent news outlet, has partnered with Canadian coffee franchise Tim Hortons in the UAE to give their customers fresh news, right along their fresh coffee. It’s not with an app, but instead, the chain has installed machines that print the Gulf News’ latest Tweets right onto the coffee cup sleeves — updated just before every order.

The move is obviously one built to advertise Gulf News, as the novelty of the partnership outweighs the actual utility, but it’s a fun move regardless. It might be quicker and more efficient to just snag a look at the Gulf News Twitter account from your smartphone — but the fun doesn’t stop at the sleeve.

Each sleeve, printed at the point of sale, is positioned next to a QR code that can be scanned in, opening your phone’s web browser to the full length version of the story.

The early results of Gulf News’ partnership seems promising. According to reports, the publication has received a website traffic increase of 41% along with 3,000 new Gulf News Twitter followers.

Fresh coffee and fresh morning news, what do you think?
