Burger King Beefs Up Its Fries

Since the great fry-switch disaster of 1997, when Burger King last changed its fry recipe, I (and many others) have been awaiting a fry revamp from the King. At last, it seems that day has come.

Currently only available in the Chicago-area markets, the new BK french fries are reported to be larger, thicker and no longer coated. Preliminary comparisons have been drawn to the old (pre-sea salt) Wendy’s fries.

Anyone who has tried these fries, please feel free to comment and share the wealth! Are they an improvement on the BK fries of yore?

I prefer BK’s original fries. These are bland and not as crispy. Burger King switch back!

Problem is te fries you call “original” arent! The fires they made eons ago were very good not the “coated” lousy fries youre used to, these “new” fries are probably not like the old or new (coated) fries, just something they can cut costs on, in other words these changes are for the bottom line & sadly not for quality nor taste.

Tried these fries in Natchez,MS today(also saw them across the river in Louisiana) the fries were wider, had more potato filling, and were pretty crispy. The flavor was lacking severely though, they were very very bland even with ketchup. They reminded me alot of Wendy’s old fries before the switch.

I worked for burger king during the fry switch back in the day. At first everyone loved them, but it was short-lived. The biggest problems with them is that they are always undercooked because the employees are rushed and always pull them too quickly and also that they are garbage once they get cold. They should just bring back the twister fries or the shake em up fries.

All stores now have them. They are not meant to save cost. They are a big improvement in all areas from the coated fry taste.

do you have #’s that show these fries dont add $ to the bottom line? Any decision by a fast food organization (& most any company) looks at cost first.

      • Ross47

Here are the numbers: the new fries raw cost 7 cents less per case, but the orders weigh more going out than old fries which means higher cost. Burger King is actually putting cost into many products now to improve quality with new equipment, ingredients, & procedures. Each store will invest over $25k from this October through next March. The goal is to improve quality which will increase sales and the bottom line. Restaurants do intend to make money and try to avoid saving costs that affect quality. If fast food kept pace with inflation & cost just to make money the $1 items souls sell for around $3 now.

Good info! I wish they would get the quality of the beef up to what it was say 10 years ago, this is not a slam against BK but all fast food places.

I recently had these, unexpectedly in Maryland, I was disappointed and went back to the counter to ask if I could have the old ones back. No luck that day.

I go to BK every few months JUST FOR THE FRIES. I went there today for lunch and was disgusted when I tried their new thicker, limper fries. Mine were not cooked all the way, were soggy and had no flavor. Skip these new fries if you liked the crunchy, flavorful fries BK’s had in the past.

These new fries are awful.  Only reason I would go to BK was for the fries they had.  Won’t be going back if this is what they have now.

We Tried the New BK Fries Today & they are Aweful…Too Thick, Too Dry & No Flavor.  I never have liked Thick Fries..but thought i would give BK a chance.
Sorry but i Won’t be Back to BK.  I liked & Craved the Skinny Shoestring fries BK had…and often chose BK over other places because of the fries. Now i will have to switch to Jack in The Box Or McDonalds.
BK’s Thin Fries were good just plain with some salt..Kind of tasted like a lays potato chip..but the New BK Fries need Ketchup to be edible.
Sorry BK..I will be Back when you Wise Up & Bring Back Skinny Fries.

Well….If you liked Wendy’s Old Thicker fries..you will probably like the New BK Fries..but if you like Thinner Shoestring fries like BK Had..You Won’t like the New Fries.   I Don’t like thicker fries..Tried BK’s new ones & they are aweful..Yuck.  I Won’t be going to BK Anymore.  Bad Move on their part.
Hands Down McDonald’s has the Best Fries…but Burger Kings were a close second favorite of mine. Too  bad..no more.
Never Did like Wendy’s Fries..old or new. In & Out Fries..Although Fresh Potato..I find very Bland & hate the Tiny Fry Pieces. Five Guys were Heavy, Thick & Dry.   Del Taco Crinkle Fries are pretty good, But For now…It’s Bye Bye Burger King & Hello McDonald’s & Jack in The Box.
Both Burger King’s Older Fries…and Their Older Original Fries are better than what they switched to now.  in the end..it all comes down to the Cut of French Fries you prefer.

i guess im a BK fan boy. i love the new fries, better than the ones before it but those were great too. i remember liking the ones before the “coated” fries but i dont think i liked them as much as the latest two. i dont think BK can do wrong. never cared for McDonalds fries, probably last on my list. too thin and hard; and too much salt. dont forget Arbys Homestyle fries, always seemed to be second in book no matter

McDonalds has always have horrible fries, they aren’t even real potatoes anymore. Burger King is the clear winner here! We tried their free sample on December 16th, and they were so delicious we went around and ordered larges!

New fries suck. i didnt hear about the change until today but have been wondering if it was the BK near my house that was making bad fries. they are flavorless pieces of cardboard. the old ones were crispy and salty yummy. If its about calories then ill chalk this up to another thing ruined by fat people,
