Is 7-Eleven Overcharging You At The Register?

Simple pricing mistake or conniving overcharge? That’s the discussion brought up in this YouTuber‘s in-store footage documenting a large Slurpee purchase while attempting to foil a particular 7-Eleven branch’s miscommunicated pricing.

The 6:00-long video follows YouTuber BLUCHEEZ as he fills up on a Slurpee marked at $1.39 USD, but is later rung up as $1.49 at the register. The customer’s main complaint isn’t that $.10 price hike, but instead the price rung up was different and unexplained by the store clerk.

Here’s the video in question:

While this is just one report, at one specific location, of which could still be chalked up as a genuine mistake, this is not the first time we’ve been notified of incorrect pricing at 7-Eleven stores. In 2009, a Brisbane 7-Eleven location was charged $4,000 for illegally marking up prices. The video is definitely abrasive, but we aren’t sitting here chalking up every 7-Eleven to this level of accused malfeasance.

We all can recall a moment in time when the scanned price was higher or lower than the advertised price, if anything, this should serve as another PSA to keep continuously check your receipts. $.10 on a transaction may not be a big deal, but over time, you will miss those accumulated dimes slithering out of your wallet.

What do y’all think of BLUCHEEZ‘s video? Has this ever happened to you? Should 7-Eleven take note? Speak on it!

I once had an argument at a Quaker Steak & Lube as the appetizer rang up as $1 higher. The girl told me I was charged the right price, and I showed her the menu and she went to the manager. The manager refused to see me and told her to tell me that they can’t be expected to reprint the menu’s whenever they change prices…

This happens to me at hole in the wall Mexican places, the prices on the menu often get rung up differently. It’s usually not more than .50 different, but it’s still different. I never mention it though…I think I should video it.

    It’s kind of bullshit

I go into the 7-Eleven in Glebe, Sydney, to get some walking home munchies but only have $2.15 on me (yes that may sound ridiculous, but I don’t think I am alone in my budget mismanagement). So I figure I’ll buy 3 little chocolates at 65 cents each. I pay the man with a $2 coin, and wait for my 5 cent change – and he just looks at me like a lobotomized goldfish. Eventually, he says “Oh, you gave me a $2 coin didn’t you?” I know it’s only FIVE CENTS, but can’t stand this uber-douche doing that. I am going to GO POSTAL if he keeps that crap up. He has to scan an item to know the price, and his point of sale terminal clearly shows the required change. People think that if you look drunk or a bit slow, or (not in my case) ‘too’ rich, that they can scam you.
