Denny’s Reveals a Bacon Maple Sundae and Other Bacon Heavy Dishes

As part of their limited time only “Baconalia” menu, the folks at Denny’s are showcasing a Maple Bacon Sundae item. The fun dessert item rounds out a plethora of bacon-heavy dishes including a BBBLT Sandwich, the Triple Bacon Sampler, Pepper Bacon w/ Eggs, Ultimate Bacon Breakfast and Bacon Flapjacks.

The menu is adamantly taking advantage of the bacon trend  (many of which may argue is on its way out), giving Denny’s a rather interesting new vehicle for traffic where other chains have opted to publicize more healthier options. Only time will tell how the bacon-centered menu will fair, but for now, it’s available for a limited time only at participating locations.

A few weeks ago I told my friends to avoid trying experimental desserts because “the meat loaf sundae needed more ketchup.”

    At least I was kidding.

I got a coupon for a free sundae (buy one, get one free actually) so I went to try it with my boyfriend. It’s actually not bad – the maple topping would be good by itself. It’s sort of a case of “bacon is good, sundae is good” and nothing more. It’s not mindblowing, but it’s not inedible either. The highlight really was that whoever put it into the Denny’s computer screwed up the price, so it rang up at $299.00 instead of the $2.99 it was supposed to be.

And Americans wonder why they’re so fat..

    • Sarahbelle

I don’t know what the calorie content of the sundae is, but honestly, it’s probably not really worse than any other sundae. I mean, if you factor in some candy topping like chocolate chips or the like, the only difference with the bacon is fat content.

who says we wonder? we damn well know.

Do not be fooled. We excitedly waited all week to go and finally made it yesterday. The bacon pancakes were very good. Denny’s is typically a good performer for us and we like them.

We had to have the bacon sampler which comes with two strips of the three types of bacons, two eggs, and hashbrowns cooked with bacon and cheese. The turkey bacon was just gross, the pepper bacon was like regular dirty bacon, and their normal bacon didn’t seem as good as their bacon usually is. They forgot to put the bacon and cheese in our hashbrowns.

Surprisingly, the bacon in the pancakes was better and more baconey than any rasher on our plates. Surely it is not different, but maybe. The whole thing reminded me of how retailers mark up items so that they can have a sale. Maybe Denny’s reduced the quality of their bacons for the bacon promotion???

Okay folks… Buyer Beware, I don’t want to hear ANYMORE comments from all you fat women about how thin I am. Yes, I am thin. Yes, I am healthy and beautiful. But it is because I don’t eat CRAP like this. I don’t even exercise! So eat junk if you want to, but stop pestering me for my “secret”. It isn’t a secret to not eat sh*t like this. (And I don’t mean just the bacon crap either, stop eating out so much!!!!!!)

@Birdi- I eat food that’s terrible for me all the time, yet I’m in great shape. So it’s not just that.

Denny’s always takes things too far. While most people would be quick to assume this is designed for over eaters, just think of how absurd it actually is. Much like the breakfast burger they had (maybe still have), these promo items seem more like something a stoner came up with than someone that just likes to eat massive amounts of junk food on a normal basis.

Whoever is in charge of the menu must be hiding in some office, blazing up a fat doobie, then going to work with ideas. It probably played out something like this:

    “You know whats really good?”
    “..Whats that man?”
“dude… bacon, I mean its like… so good”
“yeah man! bacon rocks, lets put it on our menu”
“yeah but like… we already have bacon on most stuff”
“oh yeah…….” *puff* “wait a minute dude, lets put like MORE bacon on stuff!”
“hell yeah! and we can call it… baconalia!”
*15 minutes of laughing over the name “baconalia”*
“man I wish I had some bacon right now”
“dude I wish I had some icecream”
“…whoa! what if… what if we put bacon on icecream?”
“oh my god man thats awesome, lets do it!”

So yeah, while bacon encrusted culinary concoctions may seem like a fat man’s heaven, it really seems more like something a person would come up with while under the influence. Denny’s should just rename their chain to Stoner’s.

I think they took a page out of Epic Meal Time’s book. But compared to them, this is nothing.
