New Research Links Fast Food to Alzheimer’s
    November 30th, 2008 | Hit-or-Miss | By: Staff

Though not exactly pro-food, news of a 9-month research initiative from Swedish scientists have made claims that excessive fast food consumption may have a positive connection to Alzheimer’s. The researchers examined the brains of mice to conclude:

We now suspect that a high intake of fat and cholesterol in combination with genetic factors … can adversely affect several brain substances, which can be a contributory factor in the development of Alzheimer’s.

Though the research and results are fairly fresh, this is just one of those of periodic reminders to eat with moderation. For more information on this research, feel free to follow through to the Reuters article. Eat on!

    S’Mores Maker
    November 30th, 2008 | Hit-or-Miss | By: Staff

While the idea of this machine is novel, I found it quite tough to bring myself to post about it. I think half the enjoyment of smores comes from being outdoors, roasting the marshmallows over an open flame…but for those in harsh conditions, or just simply want some S’More goodness on the go, Solutions brings about a product that makes two perfect s’mores in thirty seconds. Here’s their perfect description:

You can make two S’mores in less than 30 seconds right in your microwave! The kids will have fun putting the treats together in sandwich form on the S’mores maker. Just add water – an innovative water reservoir evenly heats the graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate at the same time. Sturdy, folding “arms” securely hold the S’mores so they won’t slide apart while melting. Nonskid feet keep it in place on the counter; compact design is easy to store. Dishwasher safe.

The gang from Happy Days had “Arnold’s”, the kids from “Boy Meets World” had Chubbie’s, my friends and I had “Fantasy”. During this short Thanksgiving holiday, a few of my mates headed down from their respective colleges and we met up for a breakfast burrito at Fantasy. Located minutes from our former high school and littered with familiar faces, this is definitely the right spot for some food and chilling. Costco Pumpkin Pie Science
    November 27th, 2008 | Eats, Hit-or-Miss, Sweets | By: Staff

Costco expects to have sold more than 1 million fresh-baked, giant $5.99 pumpkin pies during this short week when in-store bakeries run around the clock. Stores were so busy that the wheeled pie-laden carts in transit from bakeries to the huge refrigerators grow lighter as they go; shoppers walk alongside and pull off pies, then hurry for the cash registers.
