Powdered Alcohol Approved by US Government. Yes, You Can Snort it

Does liquid alcohol make you squeal? The thought of pouring cold vodka into your drink make your skin crawl? Well, lucky, lucky you: BevLaw announced that the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau green-lit Palcohol, a brand of powdered alcohol that comes in powdered rum, vodka and mixed drinks such as Kamikaze, Cosmopolitan and Mojito.

The patent-pending booze powder claims to fashioned with “natural flavors,” with it’s main selling point being it’s just-add-water feature. The man behind the product, Mark Phillips, said that it took nearly four years for Palcohol to get government approval. According to the site, the discrete packets offer a solution to expensive drinks at concerts and sporting events, which can easily be mixed with bottled water.

The powdered alcohol can also be added to food, as the site suggests “adding Powderita powder to guacamole, Cosmopolitan powder on a salad, V in a vodka sauce, etc. It gives the food a kick. ” And while the company acknowledges that snorting Palcohol is possible, they don’t recommend it — “it would take more than a half of a cup of powder to get the equivalent of one drink up your nose.” Ouch.
